Logical Assets

While physical assets represent something that you can see and touch, logical assets usually represent non-physical this, such as…

• Groups of Items
• A specific geographic or process area

For example, facilities are often broken up into 'areas', such as 'Workshop Area' or 'Staff Amenities'. Although these contain physical assets, the area itself is a logical one.

Similarly, you may often want to group items together. A logical asset can be a group such as 'Network Hardware', 'Communications Infrastructure' etc. which binds a number of physical assets together.

Note though that logical assets are ideally suited when the asset fits comfortably within one of your hierarchies. In other cases it may be better to use tags to categorise your assets instead.
